into singer-songwriter Andrea Surova’s [pronounced SUR-uh-vuh]
musical time machine, where stewardesses in colorful dresses will
take you to the past and the future to end up in the now! No matter
what mood you’re in, Andrea’s innovative pop with retro
elements will convey you to a place you won’t want to leave.
You can spin the hooky melodies around your waist like hula hoops
or sink into your seat while absorbing lyrics that turn life into
pictures. Universal themes in Andrea’s music can attract the
young, the old, and even the jaded music fan.
Andrea’s EP Rainbow in a Cage, released in 2003
to a positive review in The
Boston Globe,
features six tracks produced by Anthony
J. Resta (Collective Soul, Shawn Mullins, Duran Duran)
at Studio Bopnique Musique, where Andrea recently finished a
full-length pop rock album to be released in 2008. A full-length
indie rock album is half done. Andrea has co-written the music
of several tunes with
Nashville hit songwriter Mike
Lawler, including one on her new album.
Since Andrea launched her music career at age five playing classical
piano, she has been a musical chameleon. She grew up singing
in
her church choir and playing lead roles in musicals such as You’re
a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Lucy) and Hair (Crissy).
She has toured in Moscow
and other
Russian cities with the Russian jazz group Plus One. Local performing
highlights include the House of Blues in Cambridge, JAM’N
94.5's First Night show at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, and
solo piano gigs. Her favorite
gigs include the Helsinki Stock Exchange and Restaurant Pörssi
in Helsinki, Finland, where she sang a
classic
love
song in Finnish,
and the Jazz Center
in Yaroslavl,
Russia. She performs regularly at open mikes in the Boston area,
and is excited to start gigging with her new band, which began
rehearsing in the summer.
Whether singing about a magic plane or finding her halo, Andrea
tries to give her listeners something that seems familiar
but new.
Her songs’ layered vocal harmonies and explosive choruses
make you forget you’re anywhere but inside the song. Fasten
your seat belt and enjoy your flight!
